about

(Pretty) Dirty is a collection of solo electric guitar improvisations recorded using various distortion, overdrive, or fuzz...otherwise know as "dirt"...effect pedals.

From fingertip to G&L Legacy Special, outfitted with Fralin Stratocaster pickups, through the classic Silvertone 1474 recorded directly to Zoom H2, this is an experiment in direct expression, albeit through the heavily vaseline-smeared lens of distortion..

This is the sound of caterwauling slabs of tone propped-up beside the swaggering sustain of over-driven amplification. Alternating between fluffy sonic-beds of crust and grime to squalling-bends of weeping guitar, there is a range among the focus that brings something different to each track and makes need-dropping your way through the collection a surprising adventure in sonic exploration.

Dirt boxes featured across the tracks include:
Audio Disruption Devices "Signal Overloader" & "Optical Rings", Ghost Effects "Silicon Pepbox", Abominable Electronics "Demon Lung", eQ.circuitos "Phuzzer", Way Huge "Swollen Pickle".

Track 6 features the Audio Disruptions Devices "Optical Rings" effect pedal providing a threshold-based tremolo that changes speed based on the input amplitude.

A few tracks leverage the Acid Fuzz Repeater where noted* and syncopate the undulating peaks and valleys with tremolo, resulting in a complex sonic tapestry.

Part of a three volume set including (Mostly) Clean and (Very) Abstract recorded in January 2020, (Pretty) Dirty is Lost Chocolate Lab on overload and stretched to the limits of noise.

Take care of yourself, take care of each other, and stay good.
